About the Author:
Charles Turnbo was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and attended North Texas State University (Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, 1964) and Louisiana State University (Master of Social Work, 1969).
He worked for the Dallas County Juvenile Probation Department as a Probation Officer. In 1970, he joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Department of Justice, with the initial assignment being in Washington, D.C.
Subsequently, he has served in 11 different assignments with the Bureau of Prisons, including tours as Superintendent of the Federal Prison Camp at Lompoc, California; Warden of the Federal Correctional Institution, Pleasanton, California; Warden of the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Worth, Texas; and Regional Director for the South Central Region, Dallas. As Regional Director in the Dallas Region, he was responsible for 4,000 employees and 20,000 inmates under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Prisons.
He is a member of the American Correctional Association, National Association of Social Workers, and the Federal Executive Board of Dallas/Fort Worth. He has written several books on Genealogy, and articles on Divorce Counseling. He founded a program, New Beginnings, in Fort Worth which offers counseling and support services for divorced individuals.
He is a certified mediator and serves as a volunteer mediator for Dispute Resolution Services of Tarrant County, Texas.
Charlie, a Texas-native and history fanatic, lives in Salado with his wife, Beverly. He is a lifelong student of Texas history and freelance writer, specializing in Central Texas history.
